URA Boys’ Lacrosse is an established youth lacrosse program open to student athletes residing in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. Our mission is to provide a safe environment in which participants are instructed in the fundamental skills of lacrosse necessary to compete at the middle and high school level.
We strive to be “as grade based as we can” within the age group guidelines to allow players to develop stick and team building skills together.
Players, Coaches and Parents will be required to sign and abide by the URA Code of Conduct. Two parent volunteers will be needed for each team or otherwise assigned. A team parent will be responsible for collecting all Code of Conduct forms.
Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Administrators, including the team parents, must complete and pass the URA Background Check prior to attending any practices.
The boys’ lacrosse program is structured as a hybrid Recreational/ Travel program and we are a member of the Chester County Lacrosse Association (CCLA). This unique structure allows us to accept new players interested in learning the game in a highly competitive league. URA is required to field teams based on skill at all competitive levels with the exception of the U7 & U9 programs which are equal strength to foster development. The league allows for some annual flexibility at U11.
U11, U9 & U7 Players are permitted by league rules to use hockey equipment as their protective gear. All Player/Parents must supply their own equipment including a stick, helmet, gloves, and arm and shoulder pads. URA will provide mouth guards at the first practices and are required at all times on the field. U11, U13 & U15 teams play a 10 to 12 game regular season. Playoff potential for U 13 & U15
Practice times & locations will be communicated in early March. Your son may practice at any one of or all of the U-CF school district facilities, on any day and at any of times mentioned below starting on or about March 5th, 2012. We may also contract field usage with the Upland Country Day School.

Description of each of our age based programs:
U7 & U9
This age group offers fundamental instruction with limited contact and simulated 7 on 7 game situations. Our goal is to teach boys’ proper techniques to catch, throw, scoop, cradle, dodge, shoot, play defense and have fun. These boys will participate in an early season lacrosse clinic hosted by the Unionville High School Lacrosse Team. Later in the spring, these players will play mini games at half time of a few Varsity night games “under the lights”. A more formal U7/U9 “play day” schedule is being added by the league this year. Play Days are shortened game, mini round robin play on Saturdays only. If applicable, multiple teams are equal strength with equal playing time. New coaches are always needed here to improve the coach to player ratio at this critical starting point.
This age group offers fundamental instruction with limited contact for new and experienced players. New players are taught proper techniques to catch, throw, scoop, cradle, dodge, shoot, play defense and have fun. While experienced players are expect to refine stick skills & improve their defensive play.
We are expected to field either multiple equal strength B teams or A & B teams based on skill. Should we enter an A team, the determining factors for making the A team are “ability, attendance & attitude.”
For 2012, the coaches have decided to field two B teams into CCLA play this spring. It should be the clubs intention to field an A team in 2013 with next year’s returning second year players.
The U13 program offers fundamental instruction with full contact for the new, intermediate and advanced youth lacrosse player as defined above if there is ample participation and parent coaching. Historically & generally, U13 teams are structured as detailed below with the goal of preparing the boys’ to play for the middle school and independent travel teams:
- U13 A - Second Year U13 Players
- U13 B - First Year U13 Skilled Players with U11 & U9 experience
- U13 C – First Year U13 Players with developing stick skills
The other determining factors for making the A team are ability, attendance & attitude. From time to time, a first year U13 player or two maybe invited to play on the U13 A team. Likewise, a second year U13 player could play on the B team if the coach, parent and player are in agreement. Teams will be announced in early March.
Coaches are needed this year for U13 C.
This program is a limited practice, games only participation requirement and is meant to not interfere with the middle school boys’ lacrosse practice and game schedule. A minimum of 15 players is needed.
